Hi! I'm Jan Grue, an author and academic who writes about embodiment, disability, normality, and how human lives come to be valued and devalued.
My day job is Professor of Sociology at the University of Oslo, though I spend a fair amount of time writing novels, short stories, and memoirs, including this one:
I LIve a Life Like Yours was published in Norwegian in 2018, and has since been translated into ten languages including English. UK edition courtesy of Pushkin Press. It's a story about vulnerability, hope for and fear of the future, about the life stories we come to inhabit - and a love story. Here's the NY Times review, written by someone who knows a thing or two about the pliability of the future.
English-language essays of mine are available in The Guardian, the Boston Review, and the Irish Times.

Do you like short stories involving mythological beasts, labyrinths, and sudden moments of tenderness? "The Minotaur" is available at Asymptote magazine.
Fun fact: If you're into prestige television, political thrillers about the energy crisis, and nonprofessional actors, feel free to look for me in the third season of Occupied, the saga of the EU-backed Russian occupation of Norway - counterfactual, for now. Available through Apple, and occasionally Netflix.
